When you are invited for an interview, many questions spring in your mind, whether as an inexperienced job seeker or an experienced one. Here are some possible most frequently asked interview questions and how to go about answering them.

  1. Tell us something about yourself?

This is the most frequently asked question in any interview. When answering this question, cover areas of your work/professional experience, and educational qualifications. Personal matters and family background should be kept at minimal.

And lastly, you should know when to put a full stop to provoke the desired question from the interviewer.

  1. Why does this role interest you? Or why have you applied for this job?

这个问题的答案的重点是在你r skills, experience and personal qualities. You should link the job requirements to your skills rather than talk about the challenges, career and progression.

  1. Why do you think we should hire you?

Most candidates panic when asked this question. Make sure you have understood the job profile prior to the interview. In answering this kind of a question, relate your qualifications and work experience with the job requirements. If there are any new things that you are expected to perform in the new job, say that you are always open to learning new things and ready to take up new challenges.

  1. What are your greatest Strengths?

This question should be translated as, what is your greatest relevant strength, or why should we hire you. Expound your strengths in line with the job profile. This means you should have prior knowledge of the job before the interview. Be ready with at least two examples of the mentioned strengths.

  1. What are your greatest Weaknesses?

This question should be interpreted as, why shouldn’t we hire you? There are three ways to tackle this question.

  • Use your sense of humor; if the interview is proceeding in the right way and you have built up a good rapport with the interviewer.
  • If you have to answer this question seriously give a weakness which doesn’t relate to the job under discussion. For instance you can say, “I have been using a camera since childhood but I still don’t know how to mend it, if it got spoilt.”
  • When you understand the role under discussion, you can talk of the weakness that your colleagues accuse you of but in essence important for your work.

For example “My colleagues accuse me of having a keen eye for detail but I have experienced that, to do this work you need to go into details rather than cutting corners. I have worked with people following a shorter route and doing the whole exercise again, which I would not prefer to do”

  1. 你曾经在工作中犯了一个错误吗?你是怎么handle it?

Everyone makes mistakes, and there is nothing wrong in admitting it. The basic intention of the question is to gauge your problem solving skills.

In the interview you can say yes, that there were times you made mistakes and learnt from them. Whatever you could correct yourself, you did; and for the rest you went back to your senior and took his/her help in sorting out the problem.

  1. What major problems did you face in your last role?

The agenda of this question usually is to understand: one, if you caused the problem, if the problem could be avoided and your attitude in solving the problem. It is therefore safer to mention a problem which was caused by an external party rather than the problems within internal parties. Discuss what you did to solve the problem and if you took a leadership role in the whole process, talk about it.

  1. Where do you see yourself in 5 years time from now?

The intention of this question is to measure how ambitious you are. You can say that, “5 years down the line I would like to be in a responsible position where I can make important decisions in favor of the company and the company treats me as its asset.I hope the company can offer me growth opportunities like these.’

  1. Why do you want to leave your present job? Or why did you leave your last job

There are numerous reasons for switching a job. The best answer to offer to this question is to say, “For better prospects in terms of experience and exposure”

The questions are limitless, however for the best results, prepare in advance for the interview, and exhibit confidence in the interview room.Good luck!
